Firecracker 50

The Firecracker 50 is a 50-mile mountain bike race held annually in Breckenridge, Colorado, on Independence Day. As the original 50-mile MTB race, it precedes Breckenridge's 4th of July parade and holiday festivities, with participants then setting off on local single-track. The rider limit is 750, creating a significant mountain bike event atmosphere without the scale of an unlimited mass start. The course follows a revised route on area trails, featuring aid stations stocked four times per lap. Riders receive practical support at Carter Park, which offers complimentary bike and bag check, a post-race meal, and bike wash as part of the entry fee. The entry package also includes MTB socks and an event shirt, details that align with the race's traditional holiday feel.

About cycling & running in Enid

Enid Training Notes

Running: Locals run Enid like a steady small scene, with Government Springs Park, North Government Springs Park, and South Government Springs Park giving easy starts for daily miles. Enid Running Club anchors it, with Saturday mornings from Jumbos on Willow and second-Tuesday Pub Runs at Callahan's Pub at 5:30pm. ERC runners hit Enid High School Track at 6pm on Mondays for dynamic warmups, intervals, or speed. ERC routes keep things simple, with a 6-mile loop, a 10-mile loop, and the Red Dirt Run of Honor Half Marathon Course. Great Land Run 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon sit as the anchor event.

Cycling: Locals ride flat and far here, because Enid sits on the eastern edge of the Great Plains and rewards base miles. Bikemap lists 51 cycle routes around Enid, and those routes total 903 km of tracked riding. The shortest tracked route runs 9 km and gains 81 m. The longest tracked route runs 2 km and gains 853 m. Gravel riders use Bobolink, W Randolph Ave, N Independence Ave, and Drummond lines, with mostly dirt and a little pave' in the mix. Camp Gravelujah and Liberty's Lost Treasure give the scene its race targets.

Season: March brings the cleanest rhythm, because most people get on their bikes to ride in March and runners can stack Z2 without fighting July every day. July is the warmest month, so locals start early, keep the effort honest, and save intervals for cooler windows. Government Springs Park and the ERC loops still work in summer, but hydration matters after every run, walk, jog, or crawl. January is the coolest month, and winters are cold and often snowy. Frozen Feet Challenge gives runners a reason to run or walk outside every day in February, while cyclists shift toward shorter road spins, gravel when it firms up, and patient base miles.
