CRRC Sneaux Cone Series

The CRRC Sneaux Cone Series is a summer set of one-mile time trials in Lafayette, Louisiana, organized by the Cajun Road Runners Club. Most races are at Moncus Park, with one stop on the UL Track, and the format is simple: one flat, fast mile, everyone starting together, with runners paying a small entry fee and registering online before race afternoon. At Moncus Park, the route starts near the overflow parking lot, makes one counter-clockwise lap of the park, turns toward the pond, and finishes behind the big oak tree. Check-in is under that oak, which also gives the event a clear gathering point before the start. There are no medals or awards; the prize is bragging rights, time-trial bragging with friends, and Sneaux Cones after the race. The series also supports Moncus Park, with donations invited to help cover venue costs and support the park.

About cycling & running in Lafayette

Lafayette Base Miles

Running: Locals run Lafayette on short loops, steady roads, and shaded trail bits. There's a 7-mile trail through the woods. There's a 3-mile pond loop. Acadiana Park Nature Station links 6+ miles of trails when you want dirt underfoot. You can run 6 miles around Cypress Lake. Cajun Road Runners Club brings group and track workouts. Geaux Run, Fleet Feet, and Brooks put The Big Run on the local calendar. Zydeco Marathon and Cajun Cup 10K stay the anchor race names.

Cycling: Bike Lafayette keeps the riding culture organized, and the Lafayette MPO Bicycle Subcommittee stays in the mix. Lafayette Parish roads carry most of the base miles, tempo days, and Z2 spins. The typical loop runs 9 km and gains 12 m, so nobody calls it a climb day. The flat route covers 1 km and gains only 3 m. You'll find 4 km and 546 m of ascent when you want a long grind. Another route climbs 5 km and 723 m. Cycle Zydeco, Bikes, Brews & Omelettes, CajunMan, and SugarMan are the big event targets.

Season: August and September bring the most cyclists out, and those months can still work if you respect the heat. May through September brings high humidity, so locals run early, ride early, and keep intervals short when the air feels thick. Moncus Park and Girard Park stay useful for controlled laps when summer turns sticky. Acadiana Park Nature Station gives runners shade and softer footing. Winter temperatures sit in the 50s and 60s, so base miles feel easier and the bike calendar opens up. Warm, damp winter days make long runs, gran fondo prep, and steady road rides feel pretty normal here.
